Welcome to WAN!

WAN was founded in response to an increasing need in our community to assist those with the disease and to promote HIV prevention. Our clients have no boundaries of age, gender, race, religion, marital status, sexual orientation, education or socio-economic background. They are from all walks of life.

The Williamsburg AIDS Network is structured to address three primary areas:
HIV Testing, Prevention/Education, and Access to Care/Case Management

In January 2010, The Williamsburg AIDS Network joined The AIDS Fund Family. Clients and supporters of WAN will notice no difference with the high quality programs and services they have come to expect from WAN.  The most noticeable change to the Williamsburg community will be access to additional services not available prior to this acquisition.  The AIDS Fund is pleased to welcome the entire staff of WAN to The AIDS Fund team. The inclusion of the highly qualified staff of WAN will only benefit The AIDS Fund family, our clients and supporters. Operating under the umbrella of The AIDS Fund will lower administrative costs thus allowing more funding dollars to go directly to client services. The Tidewater AIDS Community Taskforce, (TACT) and the Peninsula AIDS Community Taskforce, (PACT) currently operate under the umbrella of The AIDS Fund, Inc.  The WAN name and unique place in Williamsburg institution will remain.

Our History
In 1983 when The AIDS Fund opened it's doors to the community, the outlook was grim for people diagnosed HIV positive. Our focus in those early days was on case management, respite support for family members and care givers and ultimately helping our clients die with dignity.

As advances are made in the fight against HIV/AIDS, so does The AIDS Fund's focus. Today we support individuals and families affected by HIV/AIDS and give them hope for a brighter future.  The AIDS Fund continually adds new programs and services to reflect the changing needs of our clients and their families.

Through continuing education, designing new, effective programming and partnering with other community health and service organizations, The AIDS Fund & WAN work to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS in our community and help those living with an HIV diagnosis as well as their affected family members.
